Petra Erler war nach der Volkskammerwahl 1990 Staatssekretärin im Amt des Ministerpräsidenten de Maizière, zuständig für EG-Fragen, ab 1991 leietete sie das Referat für EG-Politik an der Vertretung des Landes Brandenburg in Bonn. Seit 2010 ist sie Geschäftsführerin eines Strategieberatungsunternehmens in Potsdam und außerdem publizistisch tätig.
